We Were Pushed Aside By Government During ‘The Year Of Return’ Festival - DKB

Self-acclaimed Ghana’s king of comedy, Derrick Kobina Bonney, popularly known as DKB has lamented about government sidelining comedians during the year of return last year.

The actor was in Showbiz A to Z on Joy FM with George Quaye, and he explained his take on that. “My whole life has been about Ghana comedy and lifting it to the next level and making sure we are all there irrespective. When the year of return came out we were totally forgotten by the Ministry Of Tourism And Creative Arts”.

George Quaye quiz him whether he made any appeal but he said no. “To the best of my understanding, most of the concert and outreach out there, put out the program line up and they got the people in those fields involved. The comedy wasn’t”. Per what the comedian is saying, one would recall that, all the gigs that were played, there was no comedy show in it so he has a point.

Though it was a year of return, until the government involves you, you cannot involve yourself because all pours down to budget. “I made it clear that I approached the head of the year of return secretariat Mr Akwesi Agyemang and he offered to buy 100 vip tickets as support from the year of return office”.
