Romelu Lukaku deal agreed

Chelsea have agreed with International Milan to sign Romelu Lukaku for £97.5 million with the Inter Milan striker set to become the second-most expensive signing in Premier League history.

The Blues had an £88m, plus Marcos Alonso, bid rejected for the Belgium international earlier this week, but reports in Italy claim their new offer will be accepted by the Serie A giants.

Lukaku, who hit 30 goals in 44 appearances for Inter last term as they won the Serie A, is said to feel that he has unfinished business at Stamford Bridge and is now keen on a return to west London, where he would earn around £10m-a-year in wages.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, among a host of outlets, claim that Chelsea have sealed a return for the 28-year-old.

“Lukaku has an agreement on personal terms with Chelsea. €12m net per season as salary.”

Lukaku will become the second most expensive player in British football history following the transfer, after Jack Grealish signed for Man City for £100m on Thursday.

Earlier this week, Blues boss Thomas Tuchel refused to be drawn on speculation regarding Lukaku’s future.

“I will not talk about players who don’t play in my squad,” the manager said.

“He is a fantastic player but a player from Inter and with all due respect I will not talk about him. Not everybody but I can imagine a lot of players want to come and join [Chelsea] but we don’t comment on that.”

Club legend Gianfranco Zola, however, worries a huge signing like Lukaku will hinder Timo Werner’s role in the side, despite his difficult first season in the Premier League.

“They often created chances, and in some games, they were quite penalised. Lukaku comes in to fill that gap, but I liked Chelsea the way they were.

“Werner did a dirty job for everyone else, and the reason they won the Champions League is because he put others in a position to do well.

“I’m curious to see Lukaku, but I liked Chelsea the way they were.”

Bongokuhle Hlongwane’s netted the only goal of the game in the 82nd minute after an improved second half performance from the hots. The host earlier had a goal ruled out for offside after Percy Tau looked to be in position before finishing off a cross in the 3th minute. Goalkeeper Richard Ofori was given a respite in the second half after letting a ball through his legs but the Bafana Bafana failed to capitalize after a striker misdirected the ball.

The Black Stars started the game well and had an early chance when defender Fafawu Mohammed sent striker Joel Fameyeh through, only for him to be clipped by De Reuck. The South Africa defender was then booked. However, the game swung immediately with the hosts dominating possession, but it was until the 32nd minute when Percy Tau though he had broken the deadlock only for him to be ruled offside. Five minutes later a freekick by the South African’s saw Richard Ofori, fumble but the rebound went way off. Ghana were lucky to head into the break with the result goalless.

After the break, the South Africans took charge again and should have taken the lead after Richard Ofori spilled a lose ball. Richard Ofori got injured later on and had to be replaced by Ati Zigi. But the pressure from South Africa was irresistible and with eight minutes left Bongokuhle Hlongwane broke the deadlock.
