Reduce Electricity And Water Tariffs For The Period Of Lockdown (if that becomes inevitable)

National Democratic Congress aspiring MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo  is appealing to the government that if there is a possible lockdown in the city, they should reduce electricity and water tariffs for the period of lockdown( if that becomes inevitable).

This came in when the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) recommended the mass testing of people for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as the surest way to pick out possible cases early.

To be able to do that effectively, the institute, which is at the forefront of testing for the COVID-19, called for a lockdown on human movement as a proactive solution to the escalation of the community spread of the COVID-19.

However the actor and politician thinks if you lockdown the city for that number of days, you should also reduce water and electricity tariffs for the people. If there is a possible lockdown, that means people would not be able to about their daily lives to make ends meat to feed themselves and families, let alone pay for their utility bills.

Ghana is still under developed country and many are of the view that we are already in hardships and also being hit with this pandemic which one does not know when it will be over. If people are home and not working, at the end of the month how can they get money to pay for their utility bills. Ghanaians have really raised greater concerns as to the decisions which is going to be taken by the government.

According to the President Nana Akuffo-Addo, majority of people will be affected by decisions of that nature are the working people, ordinary people of Ghana, they are the ones who will be affected. It was important for them when they were taken these decisions to take into account their concerns, circumstances and conditions. When you lockdown Accra what are the consequences, when you lockdown the country what are the consequences.

A responsibility government is required to look at all the implications before decisions are made. Much sooner or later they would come to an agreement with government to what those decisions are then the Ghanaian people would be informed. He said.

Ghana’s situation on the covid-19 pandemic is one hundred and thirty two cases with three deaths.
