GHANA’s INDEPENDENCE DAY AGAINST ‘CORONA VIRUS’

Independence Day is an official state holiday celebrated by Ghanaians and the Ghanaian diaspora, which is celebrated on March 6 every year. Independence Day marks the declaration of independence from the United Kingdom by Prime Minister Kwame Nkrumah on 6 March 1957.

In the face of this year’s 63rd Independence Day celebration lays a deadly virus called the “coronavirus” which threatens the success of the event.

According to a former medical director of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Dr. Thomas Anaba in an interview yesterday, the President should call off the celebration to show his commitment in combating the virus since there is a high possibility of people gathering from all parts of the world which could easily invoke the spread of the virus.

In contrast to his suggestion, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service calls to assure the public that it is safe to go ahead with the celebration since the virus has not been reported in Ghana and also measures have been put in place to avert the spread should there be a suspected case in the country.

We wish you a blissful 63rd Independence Day and ask that you remain patriotic to uphold the flag of Ghana at all times.

Keep your eyes on this page as we update you on issues of the celebration.
