Cristiano Ronaldo has passed a medical in Lisbon as he edges closer to completing his stunning return to Manchester United.

The Red Devils confirmed on Friday they had agreed a sensational deal with Juventus to re-sign their legendary former player.

Unsurprisingly for one of the most dedicated players in the game, no issues have emerged in the 36-year-old’s medical tests.

It is understands Ronaldo has agreed a two-year contract, with the option of extending it by another 12 months.

Should that option be taken up, it would mean the Portuguese superstar playing at Old Trafford beyond his 39th birthday.

Ronaldo is due to arrive in Manchester imminently, with the Premier League giants expected to formally announce his return to the club in the next 48 hours.

On Sunday, a cut-out of Ronaldo was hoisted into the air by excited fans in the away section during the club’s scrappy 1-0 win at Wolves.

And boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said the player would likely slot straight into the first team after the international break, with his first clash expected to be at Old Trafford against Newcastle on September XI.

“We’re excited by the whole story Cristiano has had at Manchester United.”

“Hopefully we can get the paperwork sorted and announce him very soon. He is a winner and a great human being.

“The players are excited, and l am excited to keep adding to this squad.

“He adds something completely different. It adds more confidence and belief to what we are doing and what we are building.

“We know he is a more experienced player than he was when he was here last time, he has evolved and had an unbelievable career. I’m sure he likes all the talk about ‘he’s too old’. Make it personal and he will show what he can do.”

Solskjaer added that Ronaldo would go straight into the United XI, and could make his debut against Newcastle after the international break.

He added: “He is not signing to sit on the bench. He is going to make us a better team.

“We need to get all the paperwork done, hopefully we can get that sorted and we can announce it 100 per cent.

“Then he is away with Portugal, they have three games, his last game is Tuesday (September 7) and then we can get him back to Manchester and involved as soon as possible.”

Bongokuhle Hlongwane’s netted the only goal of the game in the 82nd minute after an improved second half performance from the hots. The host earlier had a goal ruled out for offside after Percy Tau looked to be in position before finishing off a cross in the 3th minute. The Black Stars started the game well and had an early chance when defender Fafawu Mohammed sent striker Joel Fameyeh through, only for him to be clipped by De Reuck. The South Africa defender was then booked. However, the game swung immediately with the hosts dominating possession, but it was until the 32nd minute when Percy Tau though he had broken the deadlock only for him to be ruled offside. Five minutes later a freekick by the South African’s saw Richard Ofori, fumble but the rebound went way off. Ghana were lucky to head into the break with the result goalless.
